The Netflix original series drama, "The Glory," tells the story of individuals who become deeply entangled in the meticulously prepared revenge of a woman whose soul was shattered by childhood violence. The protagonist, Moon Dong-eun, was born as the daughter of a poor unwed mother and suffered severe school violence. As a result, Dong-eun lost her smile and lived in despair, unable to see a bright future due to the deep trauma of her past. Enduring with anger and hatred for a long time, Dong-eun embarks on a thoroughly planned revenge against both the perpetrators and bystanders.

➺ Meaning

The drama "The Glory" was sparked by a question asked by the 2nd-year high school daughter of the writer, Kim Eun-sook: "Would hitting someone until they die hurt your heart, or being beaten to death hurt your heart?" This question made her realize the harsh reality of school violence that frequently appears in society. If parents have economic power, they might be able to drag the perpetrators to hell, but many victims in the world do not have such financially privileged parents. Therefore, the writer wanted to show her support for Moon Dong-eun, who has to fight alone, and all other victims through the drama "The Glory."
The drama "The Glory" asserts that the violence suffered by Moon Dong-eun is not something to be taken for granted. It answers the fixed gaze and preconceptions of people, compelling us to understand that Dong-eun is "innocent." Through Moon Dong-eun's pain, the drama vividly portrays how serious an issue school violence can be. It shows that such actions cannot be dismissed as mere mistakes, as they have the potential to shatter someone's life.
